Derek Carr of the Saints is excited for the ‘electric environment’ at home, saying, ‘We didn’t give them good enough football last year.

The New Orleans Saints scoring parade is returning home, and the grand marshal intends to keep the highlights coming.

Saints quarterback Derek Carr wants to give the New Orleans faithful more to cheer about on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles after getting off to a great start.

“It’s gonna be awesome,” Carr said Wednesday when asked about having a potential true homefield advantage at the Caesars Superdome. “We needed to prove it to our fans. “We didn’t give them good football last year.”

New Orleans has dominated the scoreboard in its first two games of the 2024 season, defeating the Carolina Panthers 47-10 in Week 1 and stunning the Dallas Cowboys 44-19 in Week 2.

It was a shocking start for most after New Orleans went 9-8 in 2023 with an offense that might be difficult to watch at times, albeit it finished the season with a 48-17 thrashing of the rival Atlanta Falcons.

Carr, offensive coordinator Kliff Kubiak, and their teammates have given their fans enough to cheer for, which the quarterback says is always the aim and something owed following the previous season.

“I think what we’ve done obviously, the first two weeks here, I think, we always talk about we gotta win for our city, we gotta win for them to be happy,” said Carr, who leads the league with five touchdown passes and has thrown for 443 yards on 30 of 39 attempts. “We want to make sure that everyone can spend Sundays with us. I believe this will be an electrifying atmosphere. “I think our fans are very excited.”

They should be.

The Saints’ 45.5 points per game are the highest in the NFL by more than ten points.

According to NFL Research, New Orleans has scored 91 points in the first two games of the season, which is tied for the second-highest total since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger. The previous two teams to score as many or more points—the 2009 Saints (93 points) and the 1971 Dallas Cowboys (91 points)—both won the Super Bowl.

Nonetheless, Carr warned that two weeks of production won’t mean much come Week 3.

“Obviously, you see the stats, you see the numbers out there for the whole offense, what it’s been in history, and all that kinda stuff, and it’s cool,” according to him. “But at the same time, it doesn’t mean anything this week.”

Last season, the Saints averaged 23.6 points per game, ranking tenth in the NFL and possibly surprising some in retrospect. It shows that the quality was there, but it was only sparked this season with the return of Carr, Alvin Kamara, and Rashid Shaheed, who all produced better outcomes.

Kubiak’s addition is undeniably important, but Carr also appreciates his teammates’ hard work.

“There’s so much that goes into it,” Carr added. “The coaches have been excellent, and they have set a high bar for us. “Our guys have worked their butts off.”

All of this adds up to a 2-0 start, which has many people talking about the Saints and the supporters excited about facing the Eagles.

“You can definitely feel the buzz about it,” he told me. “We understood that if we were going to achieve what we wanted to do, the stadium had to be shaking. And we must play fantastic football for this to happen. I’m definitely looking forward to this Sunday and experiencing that atmosphere.”
