Elmira, New York (WETM) – An Elmira hockey veteran has earned a unique chance.

Jon Kliment, a longtime hockey commentator, has been appointed one of just eight participants in the NHL’s Boston Bruins Scouting Mentorship Program. Kliment, a Binghamton native, has called play-by-play and worked in the front offices for the Elmira Enforcers and Elmira River Sharks of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. Jon’s previous teams were the Vermillion County Bobcats and the Macon Mayhem.

Kliment is now the play-by-play announcer for the FPHL’s Mississippi Seawolves. Kliment, a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, organized a unique “Hockey For All Night” for the River Sharks last season at Elmira’s First Arena, bringing together local and regional hockey fans.

Kliment graduated from Full Sail University in Florida with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sports Management and Marketing. Kliment has two decades of hockey expertise and can make a significant contribution to the Bruins mentorship program.

The initiative aims to assist people from disadvantaged backgrounds and prepare them for jobs in the hockey industry. For a complete list and details on each Bruins selection, please visit https://www.nhl.com/bruins/news/bruins-announce-2024-25-scouting-mentorship-participants.
