Jonathan Owens, the husband of Simone Biles, made his Chicago Bears regular season debut on Sunday and found himself in an uncommon position for a defensive safety: scoring a touchdown on special teams. At 9:14 of the third quarter, the Bears were behind 17-3. The Tennessee Titans attempted a punt, but Owens recovered the loose ball and took it 21 yards to the end zone. The gold medal gymnast immediately uploaded the NFL highlight video for her two million X followers. She then posted a poignant two-word response, “My heart.”

At halftime, the Bears were behind 17-3, but a crucial special teams performance allowed the deficit to shrink to seven points. After recovering a fumble and scoring a touchdown in 2023, this was Owens’ second touchdown of the season. In 2024, 29-year-old Owens will start his fifth NFL season with his third franchise. Owens started 11 out of 17 games with the rival Green Bay Packers during the previous season, logging 84 total tackles, three pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one sack.
