Paul Blackburn, the right-hander for the New York Mets, was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday due to a damaged right hand.

After being hit in the hand by a comebacker in the third inning of Friday’s game against the San Diego Padres, Blackburn left the game.

After Blackburn’s 15 days are up, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Sunday that he doesn’t anticipate missing any more time. On Sunday, he went outside and played catch.

Stiff and sore as expected,” Mendoza remarked. “… He should be ready to go, fully built up by the time he’s eligible to come off the IL.” Since joining New York on July 30, Blackburn, 30, has made five starts and is 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA. He was acquired from the Oakland Athletics.

Three of his first four appearances with the Mets saw him pitch six innings of one-run ball; but, by the time he finished Friday’s start, he had given up five runs over two and a half innings. In a comparable move on Sunday, New York brought up right-hander Huascar Brazoban from Triple-A Syracuse.

Since joining the Mets as a reliever last month after being dealt from the Miami Marlins, 34-year-old Brazoban is 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA in nine games. With two and a half games remaining in the National League wild-card race, New York trails the Atlanta Braves going into their game on Sunday.
