A startling 2024 forecast regarding Georgia is shared by a former SEC head coach.

Dan Mullen, an ESPN analyst and former Florida head coach, recently revealed his predictions for the SEC rankings in the 2024 season. He believes Texas, not Georgia, would win the conference.
Mullen still projects Georgia to finish second in the SEC in 2024, but he thinks Texas will win the SEC Championship this year against the Bulldogs.

It would be really impressive if the Longhorns could take the top spot in the conference right away, especially since this is their first year in the SEC.

Texas just concluded a 2023 campaign in which they won 12 games or more for the first time since 2009. The Longhorns had an 8-1 record in Big 12 conference games and a 12-2 overall record at the completion of the 2023 campaign. However, their season ended in the College Football Playoff semifinals versus the University of Washington.

Mullen and many others think Texas may finish among the top teams in college football this year as several players from the team’s 2023 roster are returning for the next campaign. In the AP Top 25, the Longhorns are presently ranked No. 4.

Georgia, on the other hand, is undoubtedly not going to give up the top SEC spot without a fight. The school has participated in six of the last seven SEC Championship Games, and the Bulldogs have won the SEC standings in each of the previous three years.

It’s very plausible that Georgia could lose to Texas or another club in this season’s conference championship game given they have only emerged victorious from two of their six SEC Championship games.

It would be shocking if the Bulldogs would not place first in the SEC regular-season standings in 2024, as Mullen believes.

Everyone will get a sneak peek at the game on October 19, when the Bulldogs travel to Austin, Texas, to face the Longhorns in a battle that both schools have probably already marked on their calendars, should Georgia and Texas end up facing each other in this season’s SEC Championship.

Georgia, who is presently rated first in the AP Top 25, will take on No. 14 Clemson in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on August 31, 2024, to kick off their 2024 campaign.
