Fulham have announced the acquisition of Burnley’s Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge.

Following his identification as an attractive replacement for Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain, Man United had discussed a move for Berge.

Nevertheless, Fulham has denied Man United’s hopes of signing Berge, having declared the Norwegian player as their most recent summer acquisition.

Burnley will receive an initial £20m fee from the West London club, in addition to £5m in performance-related add-ons.

Berge, who has been given the shirt number 16, has signed a contract with the Cottagers for five years, with the club having the option to extend it by another 12 months.

Fulham’s midfield options are enhanced by Berge.

After Jorge Cuenca, Ryan Sessegnon, and Emile Smith Rowe have signed, the former player of Sheffield United has become Fulham’s fourth summer addition.

Berge, who can play as a number eight or a defensive midfielder, will enhance an engine room that had been weakened by the transfer of Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich.

Joachim Andersen, who is thought to be about to complete a move from Crystal Palace, may closely follow the 26-year-old through the door.

In Saturday’s Premier League game against newly promoted Leicester City at Craven Cottage, Berge may make his Fulham debut.

After losing their first game against Manchester United by just 1-0, Silva’s team will try to get off the mark.
