Why The Yankees Will Cover the Spread and Win
The Yankees entered the weekend with the top wildcard berth in the American League. However, they were locked in a tie with the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the AL East. They’ve been trading blows with the Orioles in recent weeks, and one of them will eventually emerge as the division’s best team. To finally overtake the Orioles, the Yankees’ lineup must continue to batter the ball.

According to Sarah Langs, Juan Soto joined Babe Ruth as one of six Yankees to hit six or more home runs in a four-game span. Amazingly, he’s heating up just as the Yankees prepare for the playoffs. Soto will be the Yankees’ first threat in this lineup. It will give pitchers more to think about, even with the man behind Soto looming.

Aaron Judge currently leads the Yankees in hits, home runs, and RBIs. Surprisingly, he just needs 19 home runs in his final 40 games to match the 62 home runs he hit two seasons ago. There is no doubt that Judge can do it, and he will be a significant threat at the bat in this game. In addition, players like Alex Verdugo and Giancarlo Stanton can still rip the ball and drive in Soto and Judge.

Rodon has had an up-and-down season, but now is his chance to turn things around. However, he has a 6-3 record with a 5.21 ERA in 12 career starts against the Tigers. When Rodon is finished, he will hand the ball over to a bullpen that ranks 10th in the team’s ERA. Clay Holmes is the closer, although he has had some struggles, finishing 2-4 with a 2.81 ERA with 25 saves in 34 chances.

The Yankees will cover the spread if Soto and Judge continue to dominate the ballgame. Then they need Rodon to provide a strong performance.

Why The Tigers Will Cover the Spread and Win
The Tigers are effectively eliminated from the playoff battle, behind the last wildcard berth by 7 1/2 games entering the weekend. Unfortunately, injuries and poor batting have led to the Tigers’ collapse, and they have been unable to compete with the rest of the league. In order to win this game, the Tigers’ bats must make contact.

Riley Greene is currently dealing with a hamstring ailment. As a result, the Tigers are making an effort to remain competitive in his absence. Kerry Carpenter recently returned and has the ability to hit the ball into the seats in right field. Meanwhile, Matt Vierling leads the squad in hits and sets an example for his colleagues.

Montero has struggled this season and has to improve. Unfortunately, he will face one of baseball’s top lineups. When Montero is finished, he will hand the ball over to a bullpen that ranks 16th in the team’s ERA. Jason Foley is the closer, with a 3-4 record, a 3.48 ERA, and 16 saves in 19 appearances.

The Tigers will cover the spread if Vierling and Carpenter can both strike early and give the Tigers an early lead. Then they need a strong performance from Montero.

Final Yankees-Tigers Predictions and Pick
The Yankees had a 64-58 run line heading into the weekend, while the Tigers had a 65-57 record. Meanwhile, the Yankees were 38-25 against the run line on the road, while the Tigers were 27-33 at home. While Rodon has struggled recently, it is simpler to trust him and the New York offence than Montero and the Detroit offence. Expect the Yankees to hammer the ball and take an early lead, allowing them to cover the spread.
