Neil Diamond makes an impressive comeback with his biggest hit.

Neil Diamond sings onstage at the 24th annual Keep Memory Alive.
Neil Diamond had scores of successful singles during his career. While he may have retired from most activities due to health problems, the superstar’s music is still extremely famous around the world. Fans continue to buy and stream, and they have collectively pushed him back to a prominent position in one of the world’s greatest music markets.

“Sweet Caroline” is back on the UK songs list this week. The song returns to the all-genre list of the most popular songs in the country, landing at No. 55.

This week, Diamond has the most returning wins on the list. Only one song that was not on the UK songs chart the previous week appears higher than “Sweet Caroline” this week. Quavo and Lana Del Rey’s “Tough” debuts at No. 32 this week.

Three other hits make comebacks, and Diamond outperforms them all. Noah Kahan’s “You’re Gonna Go Far,” Fat Les’ “Vindaloo,” and Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ “I Remember Everything” all return to the U.K. songs chart this week, but none of them can equal “Sweet Caroline” this week, despite the fact that it’s been out for decades.

“Sweet Caroline” is Diamond’s longest-charting hit in the United Kingdom. It has already garnered 23 appearances on the music chart. Every few years, the tune adds to that total, and it has recently done so more frequently.

“Sweet Caroline” last appeared on the UK songs chart in December 2022. That year, it made one turn at No. 89. Since 2021, “Sweet Caroline” has not moved higher than No. 55, where it now sits. In July of that year, the hit peaked at No. 20.
