Ottawa Senators v Boston Bruins

It took some time, but NESN has found a replacement for retiring play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards. The Boston Bruins revealed Thursday that Edwards’ replacement will be just one booth down from the NESN booth at the TD Garden, as Judd Sirott transitioned from radio to television as the play-by-play announcer.

Sirott has spent the last seven games on the radio calling Bruins games with Bob Beers as an analyst, and he will join Andy Brickley on the NESN broadcast. It’s not unexpected that NESN chose Sirott to replace the often-controversial Edwards, given his familiarity with the team. Alex Faust, who filled in for Edwards at various points during the 2023-24 season, was considered a successor, although Sirott ultimately moves down one booth.

Sirott is taking over for Edwards, who spent 19 seasons in the booth conducting play-by-play for the Black and Gold. He recently spoke out about a speech impediment and published a statement announcing his retirement, stating that he was “no longer able to achieve the standards I set for myself, to honor the fans, the players, the Bruins organization, and NESN with the best they all deserve.”

It will undoubtedly be different when you tune into the NESN broadcast next season and do not hear Edwards’ voice. Yes, he has said some things that have irritated people and has frequently criticized officials, but you either liked Edwards or didn’t.

Following the announcement that Sirott had replaced Edwards, the outgoing play-by-play announcer welcomed his replacement on X.

You can bet Edwards will be tuning in nightly next season to watch the Black and Gold and root for Sirott.
