Hot Updates: Marc Marquez hits back at FIM president’s economy comments over Valencia GP

Marc Marquez has responded to remarks made by FIM president Jorge Viegas that the local economy would suffer if the MotoGP Valencia Grand Prix were canceled.

In two weeks, from November 15–17, MotoGP will hold its 2024 season finale at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, which is close to Valencia.

However, the event has been called into question due to the region’s terrible floods this week, which has killed over 150 people so far.

Despite significant damage to the circuit’s access roads and the fact that the facilities are being utilized to shelter flood victims, MotoGP is still determined to hold the event, even if it means delaying it by a week.

“It will be worse for the Valencian Community and its economy if we don’t race in Valencia,” Viegas told Sky Italy.

Following the Malaysian Grand Prix practice on Friday, world champion Francesco Bagnaia declared that he would not compete in Valencia, even if it meant losing the championship.

In response to this and Viegas’ remark, Marquez said: “Of course, you need to evaluate all of the things before taking a decision – talking about Pecco’s decision.”

This is one thing, though. However, I keep reiterating that it makes no sense to consider seeing a doctor in two weeks.

It makes no sense since it goes beyond simply saying, “No, we’ll support the economy.” Money isn’t the point.

“You see the streets and it’s about hands, time, and people losing everything.”

“Everything about Valencia is terrible; it’s like a movie.” Additionally, there are people residing in the [circuit] facilities.

So, money isn’t the issue. Naturally, everyone wants to return to a normal life as soon as possible, and the money can help with that.

However, the championship must comprehend a lot of things. However, as a Spanish person and a human, I cannot imagine seeing a doctor there in just two weeks.

Espargaro issues a “tricky decision” warning.
The majority of riders concur that, given the circumstances, competing in Valencia would not be appropriate.

Although Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia is unsure of the best course of action, he believes that any race, whether it takes place in Valencia or somewhere else, like Barcelona, will aid in the flood relief effort.

He remarked, “It’s really hard to judge again.”

It’s a very tricky scenario. In my opinion, we are yet unaware of how complex the issue is in relation to the number of fatalities. It’s very early yet.

“I hope I’m mistaken, but it appears like this number will double.

Therefore, making a decision at this time appears to be quite difficult.

Once more, Dorna will find it challenging to make the best choice. Hopefully, Valencia will benefit in some way from the choice we make.

“I’m not sure, but we have to support Valencia if we make it to Barcelona.

“Because you can donate some money to the locals and the hotels if you travel to Valencia and postpone the race.”

“To state that you are not going there at this time… I recognize that I don’t want to deal with this circumstance. However, I don’t think you are doing them any favors by saying you won’t be visiting there. Thus, a really difficult choice.
