NHL rumors: Tyler Johnson Agrees for a new contract with Bruins

TSN’s Chris Johnston stated on the most recent episode of Insider Trading that Tyler Johnson, a seasoned forward, is still patiently waiting for a possible contract with the Boston Bruins after joining the team on a paid time off before to training camp.

“Johnson is still in Boston.” Johnston stated, “He’s skating there, trying to stay in shape, and staying patient in hopes of getting a contract.” “The situation is a little out of the ordinary for the seasoned forward.”

The hockey insider went on to say: “The Bruins have cap room right now, but they genuinely like him and his camp. Therefore, someone else would need to be placed on waivers, a trade would need to be made to make room, or even an injury would present a chance. Tyler Johnson, however, is prepared to wait in the hopes of eventually landing a contract with Boston.

There is now no room for Johnson because the Bruins only have $400,000 in cap space available. The 34-year-old, however, is hoping that will change in the coming weeks.

Johnson, a 12-year NHL veteran, played for the Chicago Blackhawks for the final three seasons. He demonstrated that he is still able to contribute at the NHL level in 2023–24 by scoring 31 points in 67 games for the struggling Hawks.

Johnson spent his first nine seasons in the city after being signed by the Tampa Bay Lightning as an undrafted player in 2011 and established a respectable career for himself. The native of Spokane, Washington, played a key role in the Bolts’ two consecutive Stanley Cup championship seasons.

Before adding four goals and seven points in the postseason, he collected 31 points in 65 regular-season games in 2019–20. The Lightning defeated the Dallas Stars in six games in the Stanley Cup Final that year.

In the 2020–21 regular season, he scored an additional 22 points in 55 games. He also scored four goals and seven points in the playoffs as Tampa Bay easily defeated the Montreal Canadiens in five games.

Johnson and a 2023 second-round selection were transferred to the Blackhawks in July 2021 in exchange for Brent Seabrook’s contract. After participating in three rebuilding campaigns in the Windy City, he hasn’t been in the postseason since.
