Next Big Thing in NASCAR Hailie Deegan Makes Bold Speech on Moving to Indy Cars after Breakout News.

Hailie Deegan, once dubbed the next big thing in stock car racing, is switching to open-wheel competition. Deegan, 23, will race the complete Indy NXT Series schedule for HMD Motorsports next season following four seasons in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Xfinity series. Deegan, who joined the Ford Performance Development Program in 2019 with the goal of advancing to the NASCAR Cup Series, will drive her first laps in an Indy NXT car in an open test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Friday.

She joins HMD drivers Caio Collet, Josh Pierson, Tommy Smith, and Bryce Aron. “I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to working with a proven program in HMD Motorsports,” Deegan informed me. “I have a lot to learn, but I am prepared to go. The team provides a plethora of information for me to draw from, and I look forward to soaking up as much of it as possible before making my race debut in St. Petersburg next March.”
