Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly, two out-of-contract defenders who the club has been attempting to sign this summer.

All appeared to have wrapped up, with the club looking to clinch two significant free signings early in the window, with Tosin and Kelly both available after rejecting contract offers from their respective clubs.

However, both Manchester United and Chelsea have expressed significant interest in the Fulham center-back and will be able to offer him European football, something Newcastle just lost out on.

Speaking on The Debrief podcast, Romano stated that Newcastle are still the favourites to get Adarabioyo, despite Chelsea’s interest, and that we have been working on a deal for him since March. Here is what Romano stated.

“First and foremost, this is an open situation. Newcastle remain my favorites, as they began working on this deal in March. Tosin is still being discussed, but I believe Newcastle are the favorites.

“Chelsea has been interested in Tosin since the last week of March, and they are well-informed about him.

“I’m not aware of any developments with Chelsea. I’m not sure what Chelsea has decided; I believe the situation is still fluid, with Newcastle wanting to make it happen.

Regarding Lloyd Kelly, the journalist stated that he is “100%” certain the defender will sign this summer:

“Newcastle want Tosin and Lloyd Kelly, I expect Lloyd Kelly to 100% be a Newcastle player in the summer transfer window.”

Eddie Howe will be looking to wrap things up as soon as possible so that any new signings can get up to speed and be ready for our pre-season, which includes a trip to Japan in late July.
