Los Angeles Chargers v Las Vegas Raiders

The Philadelphia Eagles boast perhaps the best wide receiver combo in the NFL in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and both are signed to long-term contracts. Behind them, however, there are some serious worries about Philadelphia’s receiver corps, particularly in light of DeVante Parker’s surprise departure.

While the Eagles recently signed John Ross, they could still be in the market for another pass-catcher. As a result, The 33rd Team recently recognised the Birds as the “best fit” for free agent wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow spent the first five seasons of his career with the Las Vegas Raiders, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2019 draft. Now he’s looking for a new job to advance his career.

The 33rd Team expressed the following about Renfrow’s possible fit in Philadelphia:

“Hunter Renfrow is one receiver still available who might make a significant difference for the Eagles. Renfrow served as the Raiders’ de facto No. 1 receiver in 2021, catching 103 receptions for 1,038 yards. He sustained many injuries in 2022 and fell out of favour with Josh McDaniels and the team in 2023.

“Renfrow played in all 17 games of the 2023 season, and the hope is that his recent ailments are behind him. Renfrow is only a slot receiver, but he would be an excellent fit in a Kellen Moore offence that relies on slot receivers to win 1-on-1 matchups.”

A sensible signing.
To be honest, signing Renfrow makes sense for the Eagles. He has experience as a slot receiver, which is exactly where he would line up in Philadelphia, and playing with Brown and Smith would help him open up opportunities in the centre of the field.

Renfrow has only had 1,000 receiving yards in a season once in his career, but the Eagles do not absolutely require him to put up large numbers. They simply need him to be an effective alternative. He has more experience than the majority of the other receivers on Philadelphia’s roster, and he is still only 28 years old, so he should have some good football ahead of him.
