Lazio Veteran Receives Threats & Insults Following Roma Jab - Yahoo Sports

Pedro, Lazio’s attacker, has reportedly received threats and insults after criticizing his former club Roma.

The Background

The 2010 World Cup winner played one season with the Giallorossi before being released in June 2021. His former Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, then encouraged him to join the Biancocelesti, and he rapidly gained the affection and adoration of the Laziali. He thus joined an elusive club of footballers that switched directly between the two blood rivals of the Italian city.

The Dig
In a recent interview, the 37-year-old expressed his strong connection to the Lazio cause, indicating that he would like to stay with the club even after his playing days. Furthermore, the former Barcelona player couldn’t resist taking a shot at Roma, ‘thanking’ them for providing him the opportunity to join the best team in the Italian city, in reference to his Lazio move.

Pedro is threatened by a section of Roma fans.

This comment clearly irritated the Giallorossi faithful. According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Pedro has been receiving threats and insults from enraged Roma fans on social media all week. Furthermore, some ‘fans’ went one step further in their vile behavior, threatening the athlete in private.

Heated Rivalry
This is likely not the first incident of this nature between the two Derby della Capitale rivals, since the fierce rivalry between the two teams occasionally results in disgraceful conduct from a segment of the followers, therefore some may argue that the players should exercise caution while referencing the opposition.
