Federica Brignone accomplished an unachievable goal. At the Giant Slalom in Sölden, which opened the season, the Italian defeated Mikaela Shiffrin. Even though this was a remarkable accomplishment, Brignone’s happiness just increased. Ultimately, she currently holds an exceptional record. The Italian skier has now won the Alpine Skiing World Cup, making her the oldest female competitor.
Federica Brignone is currently 34 years old, surpassing the previous record set by Austria’s Elisabeth Görgl. At 33, the Austrian skier held the record for oldest champion before to Brignone’s historic antics at Sölden. In order to make history, Görgl won a super-G back in 2014. Breaking a 10-year-old record is no small accomplishment, of course.
Brignone was thrilled immediately after winning the race, as was to be expected. The Italian celebrated with a chicken dance after her race to the finish line. She then clarified her humorous side by stating, “I like it because I’m a little insane. I’m still here because I enjoy myself too. In all honesty, Brignone is deserving of all the praise. The Italian was determined from the start of the race and kept her lead all the way to the finish.
Brignone prevailed by a margin of 17 hundredths of a second in a fiercely contested fight. Robinson’s time of 2:16.22 came dangerously close to taking first place, while Brignone’s time of 2:16.05 was a close second. As a result, Brignone won her 28th World Cup, forcing New Zealander Alice Robinson to settle for second place.
For Brignone, it all began with Solden nine years ago, incidentally. This is the same location where the Italian won her first World Cup. She currently holds the second-best record in Italian history, after the remarkable 50 World Cup victories of Alberto Tomba.
In reference to her accomplishments, Brignone won the 2019–20 season overall. She is a legend in the skiing world, having won about three medals in each of the Olympic and world championships. A beaming Brignone reflected on her strong points, saying, “It’s true that this is spring snow and this is where I’m really good… I’m rather pleased. After the second run, I didn’t think I would win the race. As Federica Brignone reveled in her success, Mikaela Shiffrin had a dismal day.
