DONE DEAL: Jets sign pair of kickers amid Greg Zuerlein’s struggles
The New York Jets put their all into winning the 2024 campaign. Unfortunately, it things have not gone according to plan. The season is all but finished for New York, who are 2-6 going into Week 9. Attempts at drastic measures, such as dealing for Davante Adams and dismissing head coach Robert Saleh, failed. On the field, the team’s most recent personnel changes might actually make a difference.
The Jets’ practice squad now includes two new kickers. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, New York signed Spencer Shrader and Riley Patterson on Wednesday. For Thursday Night Football against the Texans, one of these two kickers will take over the kicking duties.
Due to his subpar play, Greg Zuerlein, New York’s current kicker, will essentially be benched. Since Zuerlein hasn’t made a kick of more than 40 yards this season, the Jets would naturally look for other possibilities at the position.
On Tuesday, in addition to Patterson and Shrader, the Jets also tried out a few kickers, including Cade York, Andre Szmyt, Brayden Narveson, and Zane Gonzalez.
Given that Greg Zuerlein was obviously not working out, it is encouraging to see the Jets switching kickers. With their struggling season, Jets fans might question if a change to special teams will make a difference.
A plan to move on from Aaron Rodgers is laid forth by the former Jets general manager.

In a recent statement, former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum outlined his reasons for thinking that New York should let Aaron Rodgers go this offseason.
At the twilight of their careers, Brett Favre and Vinny Testaverde were examples of “skill-diminished athletes” that Tannenbaum likened to Rodgers.
