The Washington Commanders still have the ability to enhance their offense, which is among the greatest in the NFL.
For the past month, one of the most persistent rumors regarding the Commanders has been that the team may be looking to add another top wide receiver to the roster to join veteran Terry McLaurin.
Marcus Mosher of the 33rd Team believes that player might be DeAndre Hopkins of the Tennessee Titans, a wide receiver. He suggested that the Commanders could get Hopkins by giving the Titans a 2025 third-round pick in return for the five-time NFL All-Pro and a 2025 sixth-round pick.
Mosher stated, “Having another option in the receiving game that can beat 1-on-1 coverage would really benefit (quarterback) Jayden Daniels.” “DeAndre Hopkins is stuck on one of the worst pass offenses in the league, despite being the best receiver who might be able to.” With a record of 1-5, it is obvious that the Titans have no chance of making a comeback run to the postseason. As they work to rebuild the offense, dealing for a 32-year-old Hopkins makes sense even if they probably won’t be “sellers” at the deadline.
Although paying Hopkins about half of his $14 million salary in 2024 would be a significant expenditure, he will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, so there is no long-term commitment. Hopkins has been one of the NFL’s top wide receivers for the past ten years and could be a solid investment for the Commanders.
November 5 is the NFL trading deadline.
Hopkins One of the Most Esteemed Players in the NFL
Since the Houston Texans chose Hopkins in the first round (No. 27 overall) of the 2013 NFL draft out of Clemson, he has established himself as one of the league’s most admired players and best pass catchers. Hopkins’ credentials in the NFL are undeniable.
Hopkins had seven seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards with three different teams during the following ten years: the Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and Titans. He was named a five-time NFL All-Pro and a five-time Pro Bowler.
When Hopkins was coached by current Washington offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury in 2020, he recorded a career-high 115 receptions, 1,407 receiving yards, and 6 touchdowns for the Cardinals.
Mosher noted, “This fit also makes sense because Hopkins was already a part of Kliff Kingsbury’s offense when he was head coach in Arizona.” In their last season together (2022), Hopkins averaged almost 80 receiving yards per game and enjoyed playing with Kingsbury. Although Hopkins can no longer post those kinds of stats, the Commanders don’t require him to. He can still be a dependable and consistent No. 2 receiver, which is all they need.
Commanders may be okay if they don’t move.
Because their attack is already performing at such a high level, the Commanders have a clear advantage that their supporters may find strange to admit: they are in a position of power when it comes to any transaction.
The Commanders, who are now 4-2, have three games that are very likely to be won before the trade deadline: they will play the Chicago Bears (October 27) and Carolina Panthers (October 20) at home back-to-back before traveling to play the New York Giants (November 3).
