Anyone looking for a repeat of what happened the last time Uga saw Bevo will be very disappointed. In the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl between the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs, the mascots took centre stage before the game.

Only one of the iconic live mascots will be present for one of the most important games of the year, including ESPN’s College Gameday with celebrity guest picker, world No. 1 golfer and Texas Ex Scottie Scheffler.

This year, UGA XI will not go from Savannah, Georgia to Austin because he is just two years old.According to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, the little canine and his handler are unable to make the long trip.

His handler and owner, Charles Seiler, told Weiszer that the trip is challenging not only for the dog, but also for him. To go with UGA, Seiler would have to first drive five hours from Savannah to Athens before flying with the Georgia Football team to Austin.

Seiler informed Weiszer that all of this would be too much. Seiler, who is 64 years old, also stated that his wife is no longer supportive of his lengthy travel days with UGA since he tires faster as he gets older. Flying commercial is not an option because UGA would have to go in the cargo hold, which could endanger the beloved bulldog.

He has no objections to UGA seeing Bevo, the legendary Texas Longhorn, but he does not want the trip to take its toll on him or the little dog.

“My dog grew up on a cotton farm in Moultrie, Georgia, and they have Longhorn steers,” Seiler told Weiszer. “They have a big fence between the bulldogs and the steers, and my breeder will get week-old bread and dump it out along the fence line, and the bulldogs will run over and try to eat as much as they can, while the cows will sit and eat whatever they want. My dogs are accustomed to cows. So we had no issues.”
