Iga Swiatek, the world number one, says she is “very excited” to begin working with Wim Fissette, her new coach.

Swiatek, 23, ended his three-season relationship with Tomasz Wiktorowski earlier this month.
Fissette, 44, has coached past Grand Slam winners Kim Clijsters and Angelique Kerber.

He separated with Japan’s Naomi Osaka in September, after assisting the 26-year-old to two of her four Grand Slam victories.

“I want to say that I am very excited and looking forward to working with Wim,” Swiatek wrote on Instagram.

“I’m training for the WTA Finals, but my focus is on the long run, not the short term.

“I said many times that my career is a marathon, not a sprint, and I’m working, operating and making decisions with this approach.”

Swiatek went on to say that Fissette “seems to have a great attitude, vision, and huge experience at the very top level of tennis”.

The Pole separated from Wiktorowski after winning four of her five Grand Slam titles with the 43-year-old, including this year’s French Open.

However, she was dissatisfied with her hard court performances this season and believed it was time for a change.
