‘It’s not a goodbye, it’s a thank you’: Sisters of Mercy celebrate 130 Years in Laredo

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – This year marks a significant milestone for the Sisters of Mercy, as they celebrate 130 years of service in Laredo.

Sister Rosemary Welsh and Sister Maria Luisa Vera are inviting the community to join them in commemorating this achievement. Sister Vera reflected on the rich history of the order, noting that the Sisters of Mercy began their mission in Laredo in 1894, traveling all the way from Ireland to make a difference in a town vastly different from today’s Laredo.

In thanksgiving for their many years of service, the Sisters will host a Catholic Mass to celebrate God’s continued blessings on their mission. The event will also honor the many people and communities that have supported them along the way.

The Mass will take place at Christ the King Catholic Church, located at 1105 Tilden Ave., on Thursday, October 17 at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate this historic occasion.
