Following his “first public appearance in eleven years,” a neurosurgeon updates Michael Schumacher.

A leading neurosurgeon has raised questions about the recent claims that Michael Schumacher was present at his daughter Gina’s wedding.

The ceremony took place at the family’s opulent villa in Majorca, with guests arriving from across the globe. It was reported that Schumacher attended the event and to protect his privacy, guests were asked to hand over their mobile phones to prevent any photos of the Formula One icon from being taken.

Since a devastating skiing accident in December 2013, which led to a severe brain injury, the 55-year-old has been away from the public gaze. After the incident in the French Alps, he underwent two critical brain surgeries at Grenoble Hospital and is now under the vigilant care of his wife Corinna, with very limited visitation access.

While his current health status is a closely guarded secret, there have been suggestions that he was in Spain for his daughter’s big day. However, Jussi Posti, who heads the neurosurgery and traumatic brain injury department at Turku University Hospital in Finland, expressed scepticism to outlet Iltalehti about Schumacher’s ability to attend the event due to the nature of the information that has been made public on the German.

Posti remarked about the F1 legend: “If a hospital has been built in his house, with everything medicalised around him, it seems that he has been in hospital most of the time. Based on the information available, I don’t think he leads a very active life.

“Everything points to him being unwell. As bedridden patients, most people become so frail and stiff that it is no longer possible to get them out of bed after so many years.”

He also noted that the scarcity of updates on Schumacher’s condition suggests there has been little change over the years, as indicated by the limited number of visitors allowed. Posti added: “It suggests that he has probably been in the same condition for the last decade.

“I doubt that anything sudden has changed at this stage. Typically, patients recover what they can recover for up to two years, and then the level of recovery is usually set. Essentially, these types of patients are very experimental models at best.”
