Excitement is building among rugby league fans as we are just days away from witnessing top-notch rugby league action in the Pacific Rugby League Bowl Championship.

The Vodafone Fiji Bati will be taking on the Papua New Guinea Kumuls in the first match of the tournament, and anticipation is high.

The participating teams were welcomed with a ceremony at the Grand Pacific Hotel on Tuesday, where the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, delivered an inspiring speech.

He highlighted the significance of this event for the Pacific Rugby League community, as it brings together the best men and women from island nations to compete for glory and pride.

Saukuru expressed his excitement as the co-host country for the upcoming Pacific Test Championship in 2024.

“As the co-host country for the Pacific test Championship 2024, it is indeed a great honor, and extend a warm welcome to our distinguished guests, esteem colleges, special welcome to the teams from Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Tonga and Samoa,” said Saukuru.

“This event marks a significant for Pacific Rugby Community, where we will witness great against great, very best of the men’s and women’s from our island nations, will compete for glory.”

The minister emphasised that this event is a celebration of hard work and determination, both from the players and their support systems of families and communities.

“As someone passionate about your youth and sports, I am thrilled to share this moment with you.

“For Fiji, under the leadership of the Fiji National Rugby League, we have seen tremendous growth in the sport.

“The Pacific Bowl Championship is just another opportunity to showcase the talent and passion of our athletes.”

Mr Saukuru thanked all the teams for being in Fiji and wished them the best of luck in the upcoming matches.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Bati side will be facing the PNG Kumuls at 8pm on Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
