Sha’Carri Richardson was recently honoured with a track named after her at John Kincaide Stadium in Dallas, which she characterised as a humbling experience. The defending 100m world champion committed to continue to proudly represent Dallas on the worldwide stage.

Following her impressive performance last season, plans were formed to name a track in Dallas after the Olympic silver champion. However, the actual timing of the event was unknown until recently, when Richardson returned to her hometown for the ceremonial ceremony.

After winning two gold medals and one bronze in the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees chose to rename the track at John Kincaide Stadium the “Sha’Carri Richardson Track.”

During her statement at the ceremony, Richardson expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the enormous support from the Dallas community. Reflecting on her career beginnings in the city, she recognised the influence Dallas had on her path to international success.

“I appreciate all of your support, and I am delighted to have graduated from ISD. I am proud to have returned, and I must state that I began my career on this path. Having a tune named after me is a great honour, but it also means I have a responsibility to Dallas. “I will never let people forget where I came from, which is Dallas,” Richardson stated.

She went on to explain the significance of the award and how it represents her personal development. “That’s why I believe that reflecting on my time competing on this track has actually highlighted the progression of my journey from where I began to where I am now. It has demonstrated that where you start does not determine where you end up, but rather how you apply where you want to go, and I am honoured,” she added.

Richardson had an eventful season, with both highs and lows. Despite being a strong candidate for gold in the women’s 100m in the Paris Olympics, she came up just short. However, she redeemed herself by assisting her team to triumph in the women’s 4x100m relay. Later, in the Diamond League final in Brussels, she finished ninth (11.23), falling short of expectations.

Richardson is now focussing on defending her 100m world title at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, where she intends to continue making an impression on the international arena.
