‘Sherlock’ Producer Sue Vertue Declares Benedict Cumberbatch’s Brand Has an “Exciting Future” After Co-Creator Mark Gatiss Sparks Hope for a Mind-Blowing Film

Sherlock Holmes, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, might be taking his magnifying glass out.

The brand is probably coming back, according to Sue Vertue, the producer of the adored BBC adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories.

“We adore that program, and it will continue in the future. Maybe one day. On the blue carpet at the Amazon Prime Video Trailblazers event in London, Vertue said to Deadline, “If everyone wants to do it.”

“To be honest with you, I still have the set in storage somewhere, which is probably rotten,” she continued. “It just involves bringing everyone together and inspiring the actors to take on the role.”

Earlier this year, co-creator and star of Sherlock Holmes Mark Gatiss expressed optimism for a movie, telling Deadline, “We’d like to make a film but trying to get everyone together is very difficult.”

In the show, Cumberbatch costarred with John Watson, played by Martin Freeman. They were last united on screen in 2017, with their final mystery titled The Final Problem.

Hartswood Films, Vertue’s production firm for Sherlock Holmes, recently sold to ITV Studios in a deal first reported by Deadline.

Because “it was getting a bit lonely out there” and “having some mates” was crucial to the company’s future, Vertue expressed her eagerness to find a partner. She also mentioned that for next projects, Hartswood will be utilizing the brand library of ITV Studios.

Hugh Bonneville and Karen Gillan’s comedy Douglas Is Cancelled was just created by Hartswood for ITV. The Devil’s Hour is now available on Amazon Prime Video.
