After sustaining a Grade 2 left ankle injury against Clemson, will Mykel Williams play today?

In what many believe to be the biggest game of the season, today’s game versus the Alabama Crimson Tide, head coach Kirby Smart officially said that Williams would be a game-time decision.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. EST, the No. 2 Bulldogs and the No. 4 Crimson Tide will play, with standout defensive tackle Williams being, as Smart stated, a “true game-time decision.”

Williams strained his ankle against Clemson during the opening week of the season; he was later diagnosed with a Grade 2 ankle sprain. Following the release of the injury report, Williams was classified as having a short-term ailment to monitor rather than a long-term one.

Williams did not play against Tennessee Tech in Week 2 or Kentucky in Week 3 following his injury in Week 1. Williams was able to regain some health and come close to starting today in what will be the biggest game of the season thanks to his Week 4 bye.

Williams will be crucial for the Bulldogs today against Alabama and their potent offense. Williams holds the key to stopping Alabama’s quarterback, Jalen Milroe, who will be essential to winning this game. Prior to the injury, Williams’ stat line for the season’s opening game included just two solo tackles. Williams has 16 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in the 2023 campaign.

Mel Kiper Jr. ranks Williams as the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. Williams is a highly regarded talent who may play in the NFL the following season.

Georgia wants to get the money from the Crimson Tide off their back, so they’re trying to make a statement against Alabama this week. The Bulldogs think they are the team to beat in the SEC right now, and it’s time to hand the reins to someone else now that Nick Saban has left Alabama.
