On Tuesday, the New England Patriots added another wide receiver to their roster.

The team sent a press statement announcing the addition of John Jiles to the practice squad. The West Florida native, 24, was first signed by the New York Giants in May as an undrafted free agent.

Just prior to the season, Jiles was cut by the Giants, who had already reduced their roster to 53 players. In the preseason, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound player lost a fumble and had two catches for 41 yards.

In his lone season at West Florida last year, Jiles caught 66 passes for 1,255 yards and 16 touchdowns, setting a school record. In September of last year, he erupted for 3 touchdowns and 277 yards against North Greensville.

Jiles’ arrival puts the Patriots practice squad back up to 16 players. When New England faces the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, the club hopes to improve to 2-2 on the season.
