Predictions for the New York Jets’ home opener against the New England Patriots.

The New York Jets return to MetLife Stadium to begin the home portion of their 2024 NFL schedule.
The New York Jets are hungry for some time off. But first, they must complete their grueling season-opening schedule against the New England Patriots.

Thursday’s game at MetLife Stadium, at 8:15 p.m. eastern, is the final stop on an 11-day road trip that began with the Jets’ season opener on Monday Night Football in San Francisco.

Then, New York came home for a brief week of practice in preparation for a road trip to Tennessee on Sunday.

Following that run, the Jets returned home for an even shorter week of preparation before their home opener.

Following Thursday’s game, the Jets (1-1) will have ten days off before their next game.

Meanwhile, this contest stands out for another reason. It is the first game between New York and New England (1-1) that will not feature Bill Belichick in any way since the 1995 season. On December 10, 1995, Belichick was head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

After being released that summer, he joined the Patriots’ staff under then-head coach Bill Parcells. The following season, he accompanied Parcells to the Jets. Then, in 2000, he was New York’s head coach for only five minutes before leaving for New England.

The Patriots and Belichick parted ways following last season, and Jerod Mayo is now the head coach.

I believe the Jets offense, led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, will finally begin to hum. Their offensive efficiency should begin to pay off, especially against a stout Patriots defense. If the defense can stop the Patriots’ run game, and my offensive prediction comes true, the Jets will win.

Evan Massey, Staff Writer: The New York Jets defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 28-16.
This year, New England is a smash-mouth football team that wreaks havoc on defense and uses a run-first offense. They’ll fight, but Rodgers and company will prevail. The Jets defense will keep the Patriots in check, and Rodgers will handle the rest.

I don’t believe linebacker C.J. Mosley will play. I believe D.J. Reed and Michael Carter II will play, but only on a rotational basis. But New York requires two things to win this game. First, the front four must slow down the pace. The Patriots are fully committed to being a run-based team. Force New England into the air.

Second, keep the offense multiple. The play selection against Tennessee did an excellent job of keeping the Titans off guard. New York fans desire a quicker start. But the important thing is how you finish. I don’t believe Rodgers is ready to depart just yet. That is coming. But he’ll do enough to keep the Jets on a roll.

The New York Jets secured a vital victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 and will do so again just four days later on Thursday Night Football against the New England Patriots.

The Patriots’ offensive line problems will provide an undermanned defense a chance to perform in a defensive fight. Breece Hall, the Jets’ running back, will lead the way with more than 120 total yards and two touchdowns.

The New York Jets will have another short week as their difficult season-opening road trip comes to an end on Thursday Night Football. The Jets improved significantly in Week 2, but games against the New England Patriots are never easy for New York. However, Rodgers has begun a new era, and the Jets are now 2-1 in their home opening.
