Saints humiliate Cowboys in Week 2

In 2023, the Dallas Cowboys allowed the fewest yards per game (299.7) and scored the most points per game (29.9). Based on how they played against the Saints in Week 2, you would never know it.

Thanks to two touchdowns from Saints quarterback Derek Carr and two more from running back Alvin Kamara, the game was over at halftime on Sunday. The Saints led 35-16 going into the locker room, and Carr concluded the first half with 22 more passing yards (222) than he had in a Week 1 rout of the Carolina Panthers.

Nearly half of Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott’s first-half yardage came from CeeDee Lamb (17-23 for 186 yards, including an interception and touchdown). With the team’s running backs averaging 2.9 yards per rush in the first half, the Cowboys’ top receiver scored his first touchdown of the season in the second quarter without any assistance from them.

The second half saw more of the same, with the Cowboys’ opening drive ending in a strip-sack of Prescott that the team was fortunate to recover from after Chase Young of the Saints intercepted what appeared to be a certain turnover for New Orleans.

With 12:04 remaining, Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson stole a tipped pass from Carr, giving Dallas supporters a glimmer of hope. However, Prescott intercepted the ball the very next play.

The Cowboys offense finished the game with a 5.3 yard average per play, 68 yards of rushing, and a 0–3 record in the red zone. In the meantime, the Saints won a 44-19 game that didn’t really look that close, averaging 7.7 yards per play and running for 190 yards on 39 tries.

With the MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens scheduled for Week 3, things won’t get any easier for the Cowboys.
