Adrian Newey’s decision to join Aston Martin rather than Ferrari next year has sparked debate in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton, the star driver switching from Mercedes to Ferrari for next season, and current leader Charles Leclerc have both reacted to Newey’s ultimate decision.

Adrian Newey, one of Formula One’s most recognized engineers, announced his retirement from Red Bull, sparking curiosity about his future team. Following conversations with Ferrari, Newey’s decision was ultimately disclosed last Tuesday, sealing his move to Aston Martin in March of next year.

When questioned about his opinions on Newey’s choice to join a rival squad, Hamilton expressed optimism.

When asked if he was dissatisfied, he responded bluntly, “Honestly, no,” according to ESPN.
“While I’ve previously stated that working with Adrian would be a pleasure, I’ve also had the opportunity to work with two championship-winning teams that did not include Adrian.

“It makes no difference to my goal or focus for the following step. So I am still confident that there is a lot we can do there.”
Charles Leclerc, reflecting similar sentiments, respects Newey’s decision.

“There are no disappointments over Newey’s decision. It’s not as if we hadn’t tried or spoken with Adrian. I know there were discussions and he made a decision. “I respect his decision.” Leclerc continued:

“In the end, at Ferrari, we have always prioritized the group rather than the individual. Despite Adrian’s impressive record and accomplishments, I am confident in our team’s ability to return to the top.I’m pretty pleased with the structure.

“Obviously, Fred’s goal is to put the team in the best possible position to win races, and I absolutely trust Fred and agree with his vision.

“It is a continual process to develop Ferrari over time, and we are currently in the thick of it. But I am quite pleased with how he views things and what he does,” Leclerc remarked.

Adrian Newey’s engineering expertise will surely be a valuable addition to Aston Martin, and when combined with their significant investment in infrastructure, 2026 may be a very successful year for the Silverstone business. Ferrari’s emphasis on a strong organizational foundation, as well as Vasseur’s leadership, are expected to keep the Scuderia competitive in future championship races.
