On paper, the New York Knicks have a strong roster with very few gaps. However, they are deficient in the center position, where they may need to make improvements before to the start of the season. Because of Mitchell Robinson’s history of injuries and Precious Achiuwa’s small stature, the Knicks may have problems.

Every NBA team has a “dream” trade target, and Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus identified Isaiah Stewart for the Knicks. Pincus did note that Julius Randle might be involved in a possible deal, which would raise concerns for the Knicks.

Mikal Bridges was acquired by the Knicks this summer through a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, among other accomplishments. Jalen Brunson extended, and OG Anunoby resigned,” Pincus said on September 12. But the squad lost Isaiah Hartenstein, and with Mitchell Robinson having trouble staying healthy and Precious Achiuwa being a little small (6’8″), there is a void at center.

“The franchise had previously discussed Kessler with the Utah Jazz, but they were unable to come to an agreement. Though Isaiah Stewart II of the Detroit Pistons could be a better match, he’s still a possibility. He has a larger build than Achiuwa, yet they are roughly the same height. In the event that Randle is cut by the Knicks, Stewart, who has a multiyear contract that benefits the organization, might be included in the return.

Update on the Julius Randle Contract

Randle has not signed a new contract with the New York Knicks, although he is eligible for an extension. The Knicks could take advantage of the new apron regulations to investigate every avenue for improving their future standing.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe stated that he doesn’t “expect” Randle to receive an extension during an episode of the “Lowe Post.”

On September 10, Lowe stated, “This is kind of one of the big looming questions in the league right now.” Julius Randle qualifies for an extension. An extension has not been granted. The Knicks need to be extremely frugal with their money, therefore I don’t think there will be an extension.

Despite having surgery on his shoulder after suffering an injury during the 2023–24 season, Randle averaged 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 46 games. Compared to Stewart, his production has been far better.

Detroit Pistons Would “Pick up” Call Regarding Stewart On July 3, Fred Katz of The Athletic reported that the Pistons would “pick up” a call regarding the 23-year-old center, should the New York Knicks be interested in him.

“Isaiah Stewart’s four-year, $64 million contract begins this season; the Detroit Pistons will pick up if you call them about it,” Katz wrote. However, much as with Williams and Carter, the Knicks would need to give up a valuable rotation player in order to acquire him. Although Stewart is a physically strong player who spent most of the previous season playing out of position, New York might not want to trade up important players for him.

The Knicks would need to trade for a “valuable rotation player to acquire him,” as Katz hinted. Randle is one of few Knicks players that presently meet the criteria for being a “valuable rotation player.”

In 2023–24, Stewart had a successful season with an average of 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds.
