WIGAN WARRIORS will welcome skipper Liam Farrell back into contention for Friday’s big game against Hull KR.

Farrell has missed Wigan’s last three games due to a calf injury sustained when warming up for their Magic Weekend clash against St Helens.

However, Warriors head coach Matt Peet has confirmed that the veteran forward will be available for Friday’s top-of-the-table duel at The Brick Community Stadium.

It’s a welcome addition to the squad, after the return of halfback Harry Smith, who served his three-match suspension.

With three matches remaining, Wigan trail Hull KR on points differential at the top of the Super League, making the victors heavy favourites to claim the League Leaders’ Shield.

Peet stated: “At this point in the season, everyone wants to win the League Leaders’ Shield.

“It’s a wonderful sign of your consistency, squad depth, preparation quality, and everything you need to get off the field.

“The reason it doesn’t get more emphasis is because it’s at the end of the year, but it’s still an unbelievable achievement.”

Peet highlighted how the importance of the game will affect their strategy and how it will not.

“In some aspects of your preparation, you’ve just got to try and continue to improve and learn from last week’s performance and prepare for the game ahead,” according to him.

“But the guys are eager, so capitalize on it. Why are they so excited? What are they so thrilled about? How can this improve our performance?

“It’s a blend of both. Some things stay as usual, but playing in these games must be enjoyable; otherwise, why would you do it?

“We discuss the fun of it, the event, and the atmosphere. Ultimately, you want to be in these games, so have fun when the opportunity arises.”
