The Boston Red Sox dropped their second game in a row to the New York Mets on Tuesday night, their fourth in a row overall and ninth in their past 12 games, dropping to 70-69 on the season. They are still mathematically alive in the postseason race, but with FanGraphs giving them only a 12.5 percent chance of making the playoffs, they will need to turn things around quickly.

Kenley Jansen appeared to be as desperate to turn things around as any Red Sox player in recent memory, and he took a page from one of baseball’s top teams, the Mets.

Prior to Wednesday’s season finale, Ansen was seen sporting an OMG shirt in commemoration of Jose Iglesias’ song, which has taken New York City by storm.

Kenley Jansen tries to grab any piece of Mets OMG magic by donning a shirt.
Jansen not only wore the shirt, but he also sang “Oh my God” and performed the hand motions that Mets players use when performing the song.

For those unaware, Mets utility guy Jose Iglesias released a new song named OMG at the end of June, and it has served as a rallying cry for the Mets.

That night, when the Mets won, he sang the song live in front of the crowd at Citi Field. When the Mets smash home runs, they play the song over the PA system and display a placard in the dugout to celebrate.

Since the song was released, the Mets have gone 36-25 and are now 0.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for the third Wild Card berth, as of this writing.

The Red Sox could use a spark, given how poorly they’ve played since the All-Star break, particularly recently. Vibes are at an all-time low.

If Jansen can channel some of the OMG Mets magic to propel Boston to a solid winning streak and back into the playoff chase, who knows? Maybe the Red Sox will come up with their own OMG celebrations. After all, the music is excellent to listen to, and the shirt is also fairly cool.
