Jets head coach Robert Saleh stated at the end of August that pass rusher Haason Reddick still had plenty of time to suit up against the 49ers on Monday Night Football.

It appears that time has run out.

On Saturday, Saleh told reporters that it would be “fair” to suggest Reddick is out for New York’s season opening.

Reddick, who will turn 30 in September, has been holding out since being traded to Gang Green from the Eagles.

Philadelphia completed the transaction in part because Reddick wanted a new contract, but after New York surprisingly failed to revise the two-time Pro Bowler’s contract, he sought a trade on August 12.

Since then, there has been minimal action from both sides.

As a result, the Jets will face a challenging Week 1 game without one of their key offseason acquisitions, a player who has four straight seasons with double-digit sacks and two consecutive Pro Bowl appearances.

Players like Jermaine Johnson II, Micheal Clemons, Will McDonald IV, and Takkarist McKinley will have to carry the weight in his absence.

It’s unclear whether there’s enough time — and compromise — for him to join them before another missed game.
