“Glimmer of Hope” in Jets-Haason Reddick Contract Talks, according to an insider

There seems to be a resurgence of optimism that the New York Jets and Haason Reddick will soon find a resolution.

On “TOJ Talks,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini and Jets analyst Will Parkinson discussed the significance of the days preceding the San Francisco 49ers game.

Cimini said on Saturday, August 31, “I know it looks bleak right now.” But I do believe that some folks there are holding out hope that Reddick will arrive on Monday or Tuesday. I don’t believe they’ve given up on anything. The NFL is a deadline business, as we all know. Not much happens until the last minute. I believe that Monday through Wednesday would be the most critical days.

“I just know how this league works [with] deadlines, and I’m not ready to give it up yet,” Cimini continued. I believe that there is yet some hope.

It is Day 42 of the Reddick – Jets holdout on Monday, September 2.

As per the terms of the current CBA with the NFL, Reddick’s daily penalty terminated on Sunday, September 1.

Mandatory training-camp penalty of $2.05 million ($50G/day). For daily fining purposes, training camp continues through the final Sunday prior to the first regular-season game (today), per the CBA, Cimini clarified on social media.

Counting up Reddick’s net losses since joining the Jets this offseason, the total comes to slightly under $5 million.

That being said, the week before the season opener against the 49ers is crucial.

“A player’s compensation is guaranteed if he or she is on the opening day roster. It means he can be guaranteed $14 million. If he doesn’t show up, he will forfeit almost $800,000 in game checks each week. All players have a plan when they begin a standoff, such as “if we don’t get something done by this date then this is what we are going to do,” Cimini remarked. “I know he seems very entrenched in his position.”

Reddick’s $14.25 million contract for 2024 is not yet assured, but he will receive it if he reports to the Jets and is included on the team on opening day. That will ensure he gets paid the money owed to him, but it won’t bring back the $5 million he has lost.

There May Be Some Leverage in the Jets-49ers Week 1 Matchup

There will be no pressure on Reddick other than to report this week on Monday Night Football.

Reddick isn’t officially a member of the Jets roster. He is not included in the 53-man roster since he never reported.

Thus, the Jets intend to play the 49ers without Reddick. The little leverage that Reddick’s team still had is gone if they win and put constant pressure on Brock Purdy.

Reddick’s camp may attempt to impose their contract demands, though, if the opposite occurs—the Jets lose a close game and it came down to a play where the Jets defense was unable to get Purdy on the ground.

In an ideal world, Reddick would appear, but that isn’t the plot. Reddick has been willing to push things thus far, but who knows whether he will be willing to go above and above and let this go into the regular season?
