Following the Friday morning addition of Taylor Gardner-Hickman from Bristol City, Birmingham City is very close to making their next summer signing.

The Blues have yet to lose this season; they drew 1-1 with Reading and won by a slim margin over Charlton Athletic (EFL Cup) and Wycombe Wanderers.

However, the Blues might have another new player joining the team ahead of their League One matchup against Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Davies to the Blues
Before next week’s transfer deadline, Birmingham City is getting close to signing Rangers defender Ben Davies, according to the Daily Record.

It is anticipated that Davies will join the League One team on a season-long loan, with Birmingham retaining the right to offer him a permanent contract should he make an impression at St Andrews.

How was his season prior?
Only 17 appearances in all competitions were made by the 29-year-old for Rangers last season, with 8 of those coming in the SPFL.

His lone goal of the previous season came in a May 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock.

He has also made three appearances for Rangers this season, but because they are interested in another defender, he is probably going to be out of favor by the time the transfer window ends.

Is this anything that Birmingham should add?
Davies would provide some much-needed EFL experience to Birmingham, which already has a number of defensive alternatives in Dion Sanderson, Krystian Bielik, and Christoph Klarer.

The former Liverpool player, who has played in more than 150 Championship games to date, would provide Birmingham City with leadership abilities at the back and additional cover in case of injuries.

Although Birmingham is still undefeated, they have given up three goals in their previous two league games and nearly lost to Wycombe Wanderers last weekend, which may have contributed to the decision to add another leader to the back.
