Hull City is pleased to announce the acquisition of Zane Myers for the club’s Under-21 squad following a successful trial.

Myers signs for Hull City Academy

The 19-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the option to extend it by another 12 months.

Lead Professional Development Phase Coach Conor Sellars stated, “I’m overjoyed to have Zane join our organisation. We’ve played against him several times over the last few years, and he’s always stood out as a player to us.

“When we discovered he was available, we were excited to bring him in. He participated in two games for us and wowed us with his performance. Zane is swift, direct, and has excellent attacking abilities. We’re thrilled to have him on board full-time, and we’re certain that with our style of play and training regimen, he’ll continue to improve and be an asset to the team.”

Zane Myers Myers, a left-back by trade, was noticed at Sunday League and signed with Premier League club Chelsea at the Under-15 level. After staying with the Blues until the conclusion of the following season with the Under-16s, the 19-year-old signed a two-year scholarship with Sky Bet Championship club Swansea City for the 2021/22 season.

He was a regular for the Under-18s in his first season with the club, scoring in both league games against Bristol City Under-18s, and at the end of his scholarship, he signed a professional deal. During the first half of the season, the left-back played for Swansea’s Under-21s and helped the club reach the Welsh League Cup quarter-finals by appearing in both the first round and quarter-finals, after which the Swans advanced to the competition final. He scored four goals for Swansea’s youth and played twice in the FA Youth Cup.

Myers joined Millwall, a Championship club, in January 2024. Despite only being at the club for half a season before being released, the defender helped the Lions win the Under-21 Professional Development League South title before being eliminated in the national semi-finals by Birmingham City.

While on trial with the Tigers as a right winger, Myers appeared as an anonymous trialist in pre-season friendlies against Scarborough Athletic and Blackburn Rovers Under-21s, hitting the crossbar twice in the latter game. He also appeared in the season’s opening two league games against AFC Bournemouth and Watford, playing the entire game at the MKM Stadium against the latter.

“I am overjoyed to get the agreement completed. It’s been a long offseason, and I’m glad to be here. “It is a big club, and I’m excited to get started,” Myers said.

“While I was exercising in the off-season, my agent informed me that the club wanted me to join. It was a strange position for me, but I enjoyed my trial here, particularly playing on the right and cutting inside with my left foot to create chances high up the pitch.

“The boys have been great in assisting me, and Conor (Sellars) and Billy (Clarke) have also helped me settle in. They’ve explained how the team works, given me tips, and told me everything I need to know, so I’m looking forward to working with them.

“The pathway stood out to me.” Before coming to a club, you want to see how many players come through, and I’ve noticed there have been quite a few here. It’s a terrific system with the way they play, and the stadium is gorgeous, so I believe it will be a good opportunity for me to get started.

“Depending on where I play, if I am a higher-level winger, I expect to contribute more goals and assists. I want us to finish as high as possible in the league, and I just want to have a steady and successful season.”
