Controversial Cowboys player returns: Fans shocked by team s decision

Carolina Panthers v Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys supporters are outraged over CeeDee Lamb’s contract situation. Dak Prescott appears to be playing out his contract’s final year. The front office deserves all of the criticism, but it has also made a number of wise decisions in the last week.

Between dealing for cornerback Andrew Booth, who led the Cowboys with eight tackles in Saturday’s preseason triumph, trading for defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, and signing edge rusher Carl Lawson, the Cowboys filled the last holes in their already-polished defence.

Jerry Jones revealed Monday that the team is still adding to its DT room. That’s exactly what Cowboys fans want to hear, but Jones and company should have a reason to add another pass rusher.

Lawson is a good pickup, but the DE room might be better. One more body would make a significant difference. It may sound strange, but a reunion with old acquaintance Randy Gregory (!) is now conceivable after he was released by the Buccaneers.

The Cowboys should explore signing DE Randy Gregory.

Gregory signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Bucs in April. However, he skipped mandatory minicamp and has yet to report to training camp, which is nearly complete, before being released. The reason for Gregory’s extended absence remains unknown.

Gregory has had a rocky year. He joined with the 49ers late last season after being released by the Broncos less than two years after signing a five-year, $70 million contract. The former Cowboys second-round pick is suing Denver and the NFL after being fined $500k for THC use, which he claims was prescribed for PTSD and social anxiety.

Gregory’s disagreement with Tampa Bay is unclear. Assuming he isn’t thinking about retiring, the Cowboys should seriously consider a reunion.

Jerry Jones may have to reconcile relations with Gregory, who claimed Jones “acted in bad faith” when Dallas attempted to re-sign him during the 2022 offseason. Assuming Gregory isn’t still carrying a grudge, he’d make a good last addition to the DE room.

Cowboys supporters are delighted about Lawson’s signing, but his injury history cannot be overlooked. Furthermore, rookie Marshawn Kneeland appears to be a great run defender but is still developing as a pass rusher. Mike Zimmer intends to use Chauncey Golston more on the edge than inside, although he, like Kneeland, is better used to stopping the run.

Gregory’s history of suspensions and injuries is well documented, yet he had his greatest seasons with the Cowboys. While he may not be the game-changer Dallas had hoped for, he can be an effective pass rusher.

A defensive end room consisting of Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Kneeland, Lawson, Golston, and Gregory would allow Zimmer to go all out.
