Breaking: Major Changes Announced for St Helens v Hull KR Clash!

St Helens v Hull KR squad news as 4 changes made and huge Jack Welsby update

St Helens Paul Wellens

The head coaches of St Helens and Hull KR have selected their 21-man squads for their Super League clash on Saturday.

Paul Wellens has made three changes to his side after the defeat to Wigan Warriors at Magic Weekend.

Jonny Lomax, after his three-game suspension, returns to the side. while Sione Mata’utia is named for the first time since a neck injury in June.

The other change sees academy halfback George Whitby named in a senior squad for the first time.

James Bell and Leon Cowen drop out, as does Curtis Sironen; Sironen will be out for a month with a calf tear, and joins Daryl Clark, Lewis Dodd and Mark Percival in a list of players that will return at a similar time – right in the business end of the season.

Konrad Hurrell’s season is likely over, due to neck surgery.

However, Jack Welsby could be back in time for the playoffs, with Paul Wellens saying, via the St Helens Star: “There is a chance that Jack will be back before the end of the final regular round against Leigh but that is dependent on all his rehab going to plan.

“There is a chance that will happen but there’s no guarantee as well.”

Meanwhile, Jake Wingfield, who has been out since May, has an unclear return date.

Wellens said: “Jake has got a chance of a return but we have to take into account his injury history with those shoulders.

“We’ve got to be absolutely 100 per cent confident that he can go on to the field and perform and not put himself at risk of re-injury.”

Hull KR centre Oliver Gildart injured for six weeks

Meanwhile, Willie Peters has made just one change to hill Hull KR side that demolished Catalans Dragons – Oli Gildart failed an HIA in that game.

Therefore, Tom Opacic, who has just been confirmed to be leaving at the end of the season, is re-included in the squad.

James Batchelor was hobbling after their Magic Weekend tie but is included in the squad.

Willie Peters had said: “Batch has got a little knee or maybe ankle injury, he is hobbling, but he finished the game, so hopefully he’ll be ok. I need to get an injury report.”
