Ryan Hampshire may have played his final game for Wigan after injuring his arm, Warriors head coach Matt Peet acknowledged.

Hampshire, a Cherry and Whites academy graduate, has made 12 appearances for Peet’s side since rejoining the club in 2023.

The utility back, who earned a new one-year contract for 2024 after their title-winning season last year, has appeared nine times this season.

The most recent of his nine appearances this season came in Wigan’s 30-4 loss to Leeds on August 10, when he was forced off 36 minutes in.

Wigan Warriors coach announces further injury blow, Liam Farrell update provided.

Hampshire was once again out of contract, and with no new agreement on the way, he did not play in the Warriors’ 20-0 triumph over St Helens during Magic Weekend the previous weekend.

And, speaking ahead of this weekend’s encounter with Hull FC at The Brick Community Stadium, Peet confirmed that Hampshire’s absence at Elland Road was due to an injury that will keep him out for the rest of the year.

Admitting that the Leeds game could have been the 29-year-old’s last in a Wigan shirt, manager Peet said: “Ryan Hampshire had an x-ray after the Leeds game, and he’s got a fracture in his arm.”

“You should expect Ryan to return to action in a few months. It could be his last game. It’s awful for Ryan, but we’ll look after him nevertheless.

“I’m disappointed for Ryan personally. He had a role to play this year, but for some reason, it hasn’t clicked for him.

“He’s been carrying a few injuries, and to end the season with this injury is unfortunate.

“He’s someone we’ve all got a lot of time for, and we’ll look after him until the end of this season and beyond as a friend.”

Meanwhile, Warriors captain Liam Farrell was a late withdrawal from their Magic Weekend victory last time out, suffering a calf injury in the warm-up.

Peet provided a brief update, indicating that Liam Farrell had a scan on Monday.

“He has a low-grade pull on his calf, so he’ll be out a couple of weeks at least.”
