This year’s training camp for the Dallas Cowboys has been somewhat interesting. On Tuesday, they experienced a terrifying incident at their facility. According to Mike Doocy of Fox 4 Dallas, video footage shows a fire breaking out at the Cowboys camp in Oxnard, California.

Coach Mike McCarthy verifies that everyone is safe as firefighters respond to smoke coming from a condo at the @dallascowboys training camp in Oxnard, California. As of 5:18 pdt, smoke was no longer visible, but fire alarms continued to sound as late afternoon practice began on surrounding fields.

The fire started when late practices began on an adjacent field. A Cowboys spokesperson informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “A fire broke out this afternoon in one of the guest rooms at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, California. The emergency was limited to one room, which was empty at the time, and there were no injuries. The Dallas Cowboys appreciate the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department’s prompt response and reaction to the issue.”

This adds to the Cowboys’ tumultuous offseason, which has seen them try to secure Ceedee Lamb a new contract so he can return to the field. Both quarterback Dak Prescott and coach Mike McCarthy have contracts that will expire at the end of this season.

Dallas has great expectations, as it always does. After another early playoff loss, they were given a very plain message: this is their last shot with this core. With McCarthy and Prescott likely leaving after this season, the pressure increases even harder.

Now that the fire is out, we can return to the Ceedee Lamb tale. The top wide receiver is negotiating a new contract in Dallas, and the talks have been public. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones recently expressed optimism, while colleague number 88 Dez Bryant believes he deserves Justin Jefferson’s money.

As the season progresses, the Cowboys’ future will be a major topic of conversation. Despite making the playoffs for the past three seasons, they have yet to reach the NFC Championship Game. While the present talk focusses on Lamb, next year’s could be around a rookie quarterback and a new coach.

Thankfully, the fire at the Dallas Cowboys training camp site was extinguished and no one was injured. The focus swings back to the field, where the Cowboys face considerably more pressure than normal.
