LeBron James’ former Los Angeles Lakers colleagues recently discussed his longevity in the NBA. James has been in the league for nearly two decades and is preparing to start his 22nd season this year. He is currently the league’s oldest player, but he doesn’t behave like it. Despite turning 40 this December, James remains one of the league’s most formidable players. He recently earned a third Olympic gold medal and was voted MVP. With that in mind, it’s tough not to mention LeBron’s steady greatness over the years.

Former Lakers stars Dwight Howard and DeMarcus Cousins discussed James on Howard’s podcast. Cousins was pleased by LeBron’s accomplishments so late in his career. He found it difficult to comprehend that, despite being the league’s oldest player, he was still producing outstanding results.

“Doing s**t that’s unheard of,” Cousins explained. “The motherf***er averaging 25 [points] as a 40-year-old.”

Howard then playfully enquired if James was on steroids. While some believe LeBron is unlikely to use steroids, it is not impossible given how he has maintained his athleticism over the years. However, Cousins was hesitant to address Howard’s question and just commented:

“Ain’t gonna get into that.”

LeBron James’s magnificence continues.

LeBron James will turn 40 in December, and he shows no signs of slowing down. While there are signs that age is catching up with him, James continues to compete at the highest level. Despite recent setbacks in his pursuit of a fifth championship, LeBron James remains probably the best player on the Los Angeles Lakers.

As he entered his late 30s, James was frequently named as an All-Star. He can still provide outstanding results. Last season, LeBron averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 54.0% from the field, despite critics criticising his shooting ability.

Even as he approaches 40, it’s still possible to argue that James is the best basketball player in the world. Despite leading a team full of NBA All-Stars, LeBron won the MVP award and the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics. Being crowned champion and most valuable player in an international tournament confirms his standing as the world’s top player.

With his previous accomplishments, it will be interesting to see what more records James can establish as a 40-year-old and the NBA’s oldest player.
