COLLINGWOOD coach Craig McRae has declared that he will tell his grandchildren that he coached Nick Daicos, after the superstar’s incredible second quarter inspired Collingwood to a one-point victory over Brisbane.

The Magpies’ premiership defence is still intact as they pulled off a trademark robbery with the final three goals of the game to inflict further misery on the Lions, whom they defeated by four points in last year’s thrilling Grand Final.

Collingwood never looked like winning as the Lions took control from the opening and led throughout the game, including a 31-point lead late in the first quarter.

However, Collingwood hero Nick Daicos delivered one of the all-time great quarters, scoring two goals and accumulating 13 possessions in the second term to put the Magpies back in the game.

“Wow, I think I’ll tell my grandkids I coached Nick Daicos,” she remarked.

“That will be one of the great stories when I’m older. What a player.

“It’s just good to see someone assert himself in the game.

“We’re all on the bench, not laughing, just saying, ‘Wow!’. We are all in amazement.

“We’ve got front-row seats to the Nick Show, and he’s a remarkable player.”

The Magpies may still finish in the top eight if they beat Melbourne on Friday night and other outcomes go their way on Sunday and the following weekend.
