Steve Bégin, a former Montreal Canadiens player, declared Thursday that he must declare bankruptcy.

The 46-year-old former hockey player announced the news via a Facebook post.

“The civil engineering company in which I was proposed to spend substantial quantities of money since 2013, has gone bankrupt, which has had a detrimental impact on my financial status and, as a result, prompted me to declare bankruptcy. I could have avoided the matter, but I chose to speak freely about it because I feel there are lessons to be learned,” he added.

“I find this experience very trying, disappointing and above all hurtful for me and those close to me, but as always, I’ll keep pushing forward to achieve great projects despite this ordeal,” he told reporters.
