We took a short tour of the Oscar-winning actress’ love life
If you looked up gay icon in a dictionary, a picture of Jodie Foster is likely to come up. The Oscar-winning, Golden-Globe-winning, queen of our hearts has featured in some of the most iconic films of our lifetime. From Taxi Driver to The Silence of the Lambs to The Accused, Jodie is one of the most celebrated actors out there.
Aside from picking up Hollywood awards, Jodie Foster also made the LGBTQIA community very proud when she came out during her speech at the 2013 Golden Globes. Although she had already sort of come out in 2007, this speech marked her brave announcement into the world.
She said: “Seriously, I hope you’re not disappointed that there won’t be a big coming-out speech tonight because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age, in those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually, proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met.”
She finished off by saying, “But now I’m told, apparently that every celebrity is expected to honour the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance and a prime-time reality show.”
Although Jodie is known for keeping her private life fairly secretive, here is what we know about Jodie’s previous beaus.
Cydney Bernard
After meeting on the set of the movie Sommers by, film producer Cydney Bernard began dating Jodie in 1993. The pair kept their relationship fairly private at the time, but Jodie did honor Cydney in a speech at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women In Entertainment event in 2007 thanking her “beautiful Cydney who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss.”
The pair have two children together – Charlie and Kit – who they now co-parent. They broke up before Jodie’s famous Golden Globe speech in 2013.
Cynthia Mort
Cynthia Mort met Jodie while they filmed their 2007 psychological thriller The Brave One. The pair began dating in 2008 for a brief period, but they went their separate ways pretty soon after they got together. The two were very private about their relationship so we (sadly) don’t know much more about their time together.
Alexandra Hedison
Despite announcing that she was single at the 2013 Golden Globes, Jodie Foster tied the knot with her wife Alexandra Hedison the year after in 2014. Jodie has largely kept her relationship with the photographer very private, but we love seeing them on the red carpet together. The two are constantly supporting each other’s projects, and we’re very happy to see them loved up together when Alexandra posts on Instagram.
Alexandra previously dated none other than Ellen DeGeneres in 2000.
