The Kentucky basketball season is soon approaching, with the first game on November 4th versus Wright State at Rupp Arena. This means Coach Mark Pope and the Kentucky basketball coaching staff have roughly two and a half months to get this team ready to play.

While nothing is etched in stone, it appears that many in Lexington know who will likely start for the Wildcats this season. Many expect the starting five to be Lamont Butler at point guard, Jaxson Robinson at shooting guard, Koby Brea at small forward, Andrew Carr at power forward, and Amari Williams at center.

CBS Sports’ David Cobb feels that Otega Oweh will start over Robinson and Brandon Garrison will start over Williams. The reason this is unlikely is due in part to Coach Pope’s season, but the main reason is that these two players have a specific role on this squad.

Robinson will be Kentucky’s best player this season, and he will not come off the bench. He will be Kentucky’s biggest scorer, and the 6’6 two-guard has already made an impression in Lexington.

Coach Pope recruited Williams to play elite defense and protect the rim for the Wildcats. He has a big wingspan and can block shots in Rupp Arena.

The Wildcats’ starting lineup will almost definitely include both of these players. While Garrison and Oweh are both excellent players who will be an important part of this club, they will do so from the bench.
