This year’s Old Timers Day will recognize the New York Yankees’ World Series win from 2009. Alex Rodriguez, a third baseman, has been a key figure in that run. He has not appeared at Old Timers Day since his retirement in 2016. According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, number 13 will attend this year’s game.

Alex Rodriguez will attend Yankees Old Timers Day for the first time since his retirement,” Kirschner stated on X, formerly Twitter. “Other notable players include Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Hideki Matsui, and CC Sabathia.” “The Yankees will honor their 2009 championship team.”

The celebration will take place on August 24, prior to the Yankees’ game against the Colorado Rockies. This will be the third consecutive season that the celebration does not involve a game. Last year, the 25th anniversary of the 1998 championship team took precedence, and next year, they will commemorate the 2000 season. In 2022, injuries to some of the awardees prevented a game from taking place.

The celebration of the Yankees’ 2009 triumph would be incomplete without Rodriguez. He hit.307 in the playoffs, with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 15 games. He did not win the ALCS or World Series Most Valuable Player awards, but he had as much of an impact on the series’ outcomes as any other player.

Yankees celebrate their most recent championship on Old Timers Day.

The 15th anniversary of the 2009 championship is expected to be a star-studded occasion. The headliners are Hall of Famers Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, followed by World Series MVP Hideki Matsui and ALCS MVP C.C Sabathia. Rodriguez was a superstar during his playing career and remains so as a television analyst. Despite this, he does not get his number retired or his name inscribed in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

That’s because he acknowledged to using performance-enhancing drugs while playing for the Texas Rangers. He was also caught up in the Biogensis scam, which cost him the entire 2014 season. Rodriguez’s career will always be connected with baseball’s steroid era, although he believes he was only on steroids from 2001 to 2003, and Biogenesis did not occur until 2013, making 2009 a clear year in the public view.

The 2009 World Series represents Rodriguez’s pinnacle of success. He earned three MVPs, two with the Yankees, and 10 Silver Sluggers. However, his playoff success was never easy. He hit multiple home runs only twice in his first ten playoff series prior to 2009. He had an OPS above.650 only three times, one of which came against the Yankees in the 2000 ALCS.

He silenced all detractors in 2009, particularly in the ALDS and ALCS. Rodriguez homered three times in six games against the Angels in the championship series, including a game-tying shot in the 11th inning of Game Two.

This month’s Old Timers Day will commemorate the Yankees’ most recent triumph. The 15th anniversary of the 2009 championship will include star Alex Rodriguez, which is well earned given his performance in the postseason.
