The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears enjoy one of the most historic rivalries in all of professional sports. Of course, the competition has recently become more one-sided. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, who takes over in 2019, has a perfect 10-0 record versus the Bears. Green Bay leads the all-time series versus Chicago, 107-95-6.

Of course, the Packers’ past two quarterbacks, Hall of Famer Brett Favre and future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, are largely responsible for the team’s three-decade dominance over their southern rivals. Favre had a 22-10 lifetime record against Chicago during his stint in Green Bay, while Rodgers was an unbelievable 24-5.

Randall Cobb, a former Packers wide receiver, is extremely familiar with Green Bay’s rivalry with Chicago. He clearly dislikes the Bears after spending ten seasons with the Packers (distributed over two different stints).
The Packers webcast their annual Family Night scrimmage at Lambeau Field, which drew tens of thousands of people on Saturday night. Cobb appeared as a special guest during the show.

During his portion, Cobb was asked his thoughts on the Bears’ summer upgrades. The former Packers Pro Bowler isn’t impressed. “They had been a running joke for a long time. “And I believe they will continue to be a joke,” Cobb remarked.

There is no disputing that, on paper, the 2024 Bears represent a significant upgrade over the squads they have fielded in recent seasons. In recent months, Chicago has signed Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen, as well as two top ten picks from the 2024 NFL Draft: quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze.

Meanwhile, new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has dramatically transformed the Packers’ defense. Green Bay also signed Josh Jacobs, the 2022 NFL running leader, in free agency.

2024 will undoubtedly mark the beginning of a new chapter in the historic rivalry, with Chicago entering the Williams Era, although it is difficult to determine whether they have done enough to defeat an opponent to whom they have lost ten consecutive encounters.

Cobb obviously believes they haven’t done enough.
