As we continue to sort through Donald Trump’s populist promises and downright lies, Barbra Streisand pauses to examine the ramifications of his election and what some of his most worrisome proposals may entail.

If four years in possession of the world’s largest nuclear football has taught us anything, it is that there are no morally filthy depths to which Trump will not dive. In some ways, the Republican presidential campaigner is one of history’s greatest con artists, if only for convincing millions of people that, as the only president ever convicted of a felony, not to mention dozens of other offenses such as sexual abuse, defamation, and financial fraud, he has their best interests at heart.

However, if Trump was simply acting like a lunatic during his first term, he will be far more unhinged this time around, with the potential aim of utilizing the Executive Office of the President to settle scores and empower his influential friends.

Recently, the project known as Project 2025 has received a lot of attention. Project 2025, a set of policy proposals by the right-wing Heritage Foundation, most of which were put together by former Trump aides and Republicans close to his cause, seeks to consolidate the president’s executive power by essentially replacing tens of thousands of federal civil servants with people loyal to the president.

As you’d expect, this is causing alarms all over the place, and the latest to weigh in is the renowned Barbra Streisand, who is highlighting a few blatantly elitist plans in Project 2025.

You may find the idea perplexing, but putting pressure on the middle class while providing billionaires tax breaks is something Trump has done before. And I believe that if you read the mandate, this will be one of the least worrisome provisions. Streisand isn’t exaggerating when she says it’s a “recipe for an authoritarian theocracy,” because Project 2025’s main goal is to bring Christian nationalist values to the forefront of the government’s executive branch, undermining concepts like the separation of church and state and promoting philosophies like theocratic enforcement of religious values.

In short, Project 2025 is a definite method to regress even further into the Dark Ages. Trump may not know where he stands on Christianity, but you can bet he isn’t going to simply fire his long-time associates, especially if it means he’ll have greater authority over the government once this is all done.
