The NBA Summer League culminated with an electrifying finish, as the Miami Heat defeated the Memphis Grizzlies in a championship overtime thriller, 120-118. While the outcome was exciting, much of the interest was on Bronny James, the 55th pick in the draft, and how he would progress with the Los Angeles Lakers throughout the tournament.
Bronny’s First NBA Steps
Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, made an intriguing start in the Summer League. Over six games, he averaged seven points while shooting 32.7 percent from the field and 13% from three-point range. He also averaged 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, with 1.8 turnovers. Although his statistics were not exceptional, expectations for the rookie were reasonable, and his performance improved gradually. Being the son of the NBA’s all-time top scorer definitely has its own set of challenges.
Bronny looked excellent in one of his better games against the Atlanta Hawks, according to an Instagram video he posted. In that game, he scored 12 points, going 5 for 11 from the field and making two of his five three-point attempts. His best effort, however, came in his final game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, when he scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, adding five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. What began as a difficult Summer League ended on a good one for Bronny, who improved significantly as the games went on.

The video was created by the account “Bron2K Productions,” which, contrary to popular belief, is run by Bronson Tucay, a Hawaiian who took advantage of the opportunity to make the video the most viewed on his account, garnering over a million views to date.
What’s next for Bronny?
Bronny is now set to fly to Paris to support his father, who will be the flag bearer for the United States at the Olympics, striving for gold. The games officially start on Friday, but there has already been activity in soccer and rugby sevens. We don’t know what the future holds for Bronny as he works to improve his game and follow in his father’s illustrious footsteps.
